The 2 Ounce Shower

If you’ve spent enough time in the field, you know how bad it can feel to crawl out of a bivy bag cold, crusted in sweat, and running on three hours of sleep. You don’t always have time for a full shave or wash, but you still want to feel human before you start the day. That’s where this little thing comes in — what I call the 2 Ounce Shower.
It’s a pre-moistened cotton towel, about the size of a hand towel but lighter than a lighter. It’s not a wipe — it’s a damn good field towel that just happens to come ready to use, clean, soft, and disposable.

Why I Started Carrying It
I’ve tried everything in the field — baby wipes, body wipes, paper towels, you name it. Most of them leave you feeling sticky, smell too strong, or just fall apart. This one is different. The texture is soft but firm, like a proper washcloth, and it actually cleans instead of just smearing dirt around.

The first time I used it was after a 20-degree night. I dropped it into a new MRE heater, added a few drops of water, and let it warm up. When I pulled it out — steaming hot — it felt like a hotel towel in the middle of nowhere. I wiped my face and neck, and I swear it was the best morale boost I’d had in days. I prefer to use it for a hot shave first thing in the morning. Just that quick ritual of cleaning up makes a huge difference.
The Routine
Here’s how I do it:
Tear open the towel packet, keep it in the package. (allow the package to breathe and the steam to escape)
Drop it into the MRE heater sleeve with a splash of water.
Let it steam for a few minutes.
Pull it out, wring it lightly, and enjoy.
If you’ve got a canteen cup of hot water, or if you save the MRE beverage bag and heat up a little extra water, that’s even better. You can re-soak the towel after shaving or rinse it off for another pass. I usually start by using it for a hot shave, then go down across my body — neck, arms, chest, pits — hitting all the hot spots and wiping off the sticky residue that baby wipes or Dude Wipes leave behind.
If you’re in a situation where you’re feeling sticky or swampy and wipes just aren’t cutting it, this thing’s a solid last resort. It actually gets you clean.
Why It’s a Must-Have
Lightweight: You can pack ten of these and not even notice the weight.
Disposable: No rinsing or drying needed. Use it, ditch it, move on.
Hot-shave ready: Combine it with your razor and a mirror, and you’ve got a clean shave anywhere.
Pairs perfectly with hot water: Whether it’s from your canteen cup or a warmed beverage bag, the towel holds heat and moisture just right.
Morale factor: There’s something about cleaning up, even just a little, that resets your head. Makes you sharper, more focused, and a hell of a lot more comfortable.
Long shelf life: They stay wet for around 18 months without issue. I’ve never had a mold problem — they store fine and still smell clean and mild even after a year.
Stick with unscented: The lemon and other scented versions are strong — a little too strong for field use. The unscented ones just smell clean and neutral.

Final Thoughts
This isn’t a sponsored post — I’m not paid by anyone to write this. But this is the exact brand I use, and I’ve linked it below with my affiliate tag. If you pick some up through that link, it helps support the projects and content I build for soldiers and field-minded folks like us.
The 2 Ounce Shower is my go-to for field hygiene. It’s light, reliable, and does exactly what it needs to. You can stash a couple in your assault pack and forget about them until you need them — and when you do, they’re worth their weight in gold.
If you’ve ever been cold, dirty, and half awake in the field, you already know: sometimes it’s the little things that keep you going. This towel is one of those things.
The 2 Ounce Shower — because feeling human shouldn’t depend on running water.
